The UN Censors Gun Sculpture Art in Vienna

Print PDF

I have had a long time association with the Gun Sculpture as well as Sandra Bromley and Wallis Kendall, the artists who created it.  The UN recently unilaterally and without notice removed the photo exhibit part of the artwork.  This was because the Chinese delegation at theUN conference in Vienna, where it was on display, objected to a couple of pictures of Tibetan nuns who were victims of small arms violence....but not attributed to any Chinese action or connection to them.  Hypersensitive or what!

I just did a blog piece on this event and in the context of the Gun Sculpture message and the critically important role of art in provoking controversy in our society and within ourselves.   Here is a link to the blog post. http://ken-chapman.blogspot.com/2010/07/shame-on-un-for-censoring-gun-sculpture.html

I hope you read it and share it with your networks to ensure this story gets legs and people get ot reflect and respond to the implications of the Gun Sculpture and these recent controversial events around it.
